LENOX HILL NEUROSURGERY AND THEIR BRAINterns PROGRAM
Lenox Hill Neurosurgery's BRAINtern Program
On behalf of the Lenox Hill Neurosurgery Department, we wanted to welcome you to the
The BRAINterns Webinar Series is a groundbreaking program offered by the Lenox Hill Department of Neurosurgery for anyone interested in healthcare. Due to this new remote environment we are living in, we will be offering this program online and enabling that valuable “shadowing” experience through virtual platforms. Through webinars on relevant topics, academic seminars led by leaders from our Lenox Hill Neurosurgery department, and projects focused on the ins and outs of applying to medical school, working for a neurosurgical practice, surgical video editing, and innovation in the clinical research world, students will get an opportunity to learn from renowned surgeons, PAs, NPs and administrative staff to increase their work experience and enhance their CVs.!
We are currently in the process of planning the summer webinar and internship, although we do not have registration or applications open yet, and have something in the works for spring. I will update the website and Facebook group as soon as I have more information.
We look forward to meeting you virtually. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
Lenox Hill Hospital
Lenox Hill Hospital was recognized for high performance in several specialties on U.S. News & World Report’s 2019-20 Best Hospitals rankings—including neurology and neurosurgery. We’re proud to be recognized for the exceptional care we provide every day.
Our multidisciplinary team focuses on minimally invasive surgical treatments of vascular diseases (including aneurysms, vascular malformations and stroke), skull base and brain tumors, complex spinal disorders and restorative and geriatric disorders (hydrocephalus).
We focus our efforts on ensuring that care comes first and that the patient is fully informed during every step of the process. Along with benefitting from the application of 3D imaging and computer-assisted technologies for surgery, our patients also receive improved care from our use of technology to improve communication between physicians and patients. We are the first hospital to acquire and utilize an innovative video exoscope, a new alternative to the standard operating room microscope. The video exoscope offers an extraordinarily higher resolution in 4K and 3D images of the surgical field. The device allows for the entire operative staff to view on 3D monitors the same surgical field the surgeon is seeing.
Our surgeons routinely perform virtual office visits, which includes the physician creating a podcast, which is emailed to the patient so they have a copy of all information explained in the office prior to a procedure. To help the patient understand their individual treatment plan, we create a video of instructions for each patient. An example can be found here under "Virtual office visits." Our patients also have access to clinical studies offering novel, state-of-the-art therapies developed by our own physicians, as well as those that are done in collaboration with other sites.
The department is led by Dr. David J. Langer, a world-renowned surgeon and a leader in the field.
